My goal as an artist is to create contemporary and relevant works that rely on the traditional elements of quality painting. I have worked across genres and enjoy a life-long relationship with painting, drawing and printmaking. As a young artist I approached my work with a “self expressive” attitude but the work never matured beyond youthful experimentation. In 2000 I set out to pursue a more disciplined approach and learned how to use color, composition, and atmosphere to better advantage in my representational and figurative work. My subjects vary according to mood and circumstances. Every new canvas presents the opportunity to create something fresh; thoughts and concepts appear as tangible ideas. I prefer to paint live models and landscapes and treat both as an act of investigation –looking, seeing, and discovering what the painting demands from the painter. I prefer to work in oil.
